Leading fabric wholesaler and retailer, Bloom Fabrics offer exclusive fabrics for bridal, haute couture and evening wear. Based in Melbourne and importing the finest fabrics from around the globe, the Bloom team approached Lemonade to design an elegant, inspiring website that would also double up as a sound, reliable e-commerce solution.
The design brief was challenging in that the interface had to represent stylish high-end fabric fashion, but also adhere to the usual visual elements that are inherent in e-commerce design. Lemonade achieved the optimal balance between the two. Fabric quality and details were emphasised through the sleek home page animation and stylish fabric pages. The checkout and e-commerce pages were designed with usability in mind, with clear paths through the site.
Searching and finding fabrics are a key factor in the success and the enjoyment of using the site. Three search methods were developed to fulfil different search behaviours. One of these was the Fabric Finder application which is a visual search mechanism allowing users to combine thumbnail swatches across fabric types, occasions and characteristics and then retrieving a set of matching fabrics. Complementary and alternative fabric recommendations are cross referenced with every fabric, to help users browse or locate fabrics that they are specifically looking for.
The next stage of the project will be to add a style gallery to the site. This will suggest chic and fashionable looks for different occasions, cross referencing fabrics back to product detail pages.
